Elegant Shutter Installation in Bournemouth – Traditional Style Meets Modern Living

At The ShutterShack, we love helping our customers find the perfect balance between style, practicality, and long-lasting quality. Recently, our team completed a beautiful shutter installation in Bournemouth, and we’re excited to share the results.

Traditional Tier-on-Tier Shutters for Bay Windows

For the front of the property, the customer chose hardwood shutters in a tier-on-tier design with 63mm louvres. This classic style creates a timeless, traditional look while offering maximum flexibility – the top and bottom panels can be opened independently, allowing light control and privacy exactly when it’s needed.

The smaller louvres were chosen to give the home a more traditional feel and to ensure extra privacy from the street, without sacrificing natural light.

Stylish Solutions at the Rear

At the rear of the property, we installed tracked shutters across the patio doors. This design allows the shutters to glide smoothly on a track system, making them easy to open and close – perfect for large glass doors where access to the garden or patio is essential.

For the bathroom, the customer opted for a waterproof shutter, ensuring durability in a space with higher humidity, without compromising on style.

Happy Customers, Happy Team

The best part of this project was hearing how delighted our customers were with the finished result. They left us a glowing 10/10 review on Checkatrade:

“Fantastic Service! We are so happy with our new shutters, they have made such a difference to our home and fitted beautifully. We would fully recommend Charles, Steve and Ailsa – who as a team have been amazing throughout the whole process… a good bunch. Thank you.”

  • Design flexibility – from traditional tier-on-tier to modern tracked shutters.

📏What to Expect During Your Shutter Survey

If you’re considering made-to-measure shutters for your home, your first step is to book a shutter survey with The ShutterShack. This visit is all about accuracy, inspiration, and guidance — with absolutely no pressure to commit on the day. Here’s what you can expect when we come to see you.

A Friendly, Professional Shutter Survey

During the survey, we will:

Shutter Illustration - Curved Bay
  • Take precise measurements of your windows to ensure your shutters fit perfectly

  • Bring material and design samples so you can see the quality and finishes in person

  • Talk you through the different styles of shutters (full height, café style, tier-on-tier, and more) to help you find the right match for your home

After the visit, we’ll email you a detailed proposal along with design drawings. This gives you a clear visual of how your new shutters will look. Importantly, you are under no obligation to make any decisions or payments during the survey — it’s simply about helping you make an informed choice.

Requesting an Estimate Before a Survey

If you’d prefer to get an idea of costs before booking a home survey, you’re very welcome to send us your own window measurements. We can provide an initial estimate based on these figures, so you know roughly what to expect. The in-person survey will then ensure complete accuracy and give you the chance to explore samples and designs in detail.

Preparing for Your Appointment

To make the survey as smooth and efficient as possible, we kindly ask that you:

  • Ensure your windows are fully accessible

  • Clear your window sills of any ornaments, blinds, or plants

This allows us to take accurate measurements for ordering purposes.

Complete Window Work Before Your Survey

One important point to consider before booking a survey is whether you’re planning any window replacements, reveal renovations, or sill alterations. Because shutters are made-to-measure, every millimetre matters — and the measurements we take at your survey are used to create your custom shutters.

🔔 Important Notice - If any changes are made after your shutters are ordered (such as replacing windows, plastering, re-plastering, decorating, or altering sills), your shutters may no longer fit correctly. In this case, they would need to be completely reordered at your own expense. For more details, please refer to our Terms and Conditions.

That’s why we always recommend carrying out any planned window or surround renovations before arranging a survey. It avoids unnecessary costs and ensures your shutters are a perfect fit first time. You can also read more about this in our shutter removal guide for clients who need to complete window renovations after their shutters are fitted.

Shutter Delivery Times

We work with both international and UK shutter manufacturers to provide options for every customer:

  • International shutters: Delivery is typically 12–14 weeks. In some cases, they may arrive sooner, though delays are possible. We also offer a faster delivery option by train (9–11 weeks) at an additional cost per square metre (excluding delays around Chinese New Year).

  • UK-manufactured shutters: Delivered in 4–5 weeks. These are quicker but limited to PVC or vinyl shutters with fewer design choices.

*Due to the unpredictable nature of international delivery, lead times are estimated and cannot be guaranteed.

As soon as your shutters arrive with us, we’ll be in touch to arrange your installation. We aim to book this within a few days of delivery, working around our existing schedule to find a convenient slot for you.

Please note: we are unable to confirm your installation date until your shutters have arrived at our workshop. Rest assured, we’ll be in touch as soon as they do.

  • Work with care and respect in your home

  • Remove all packaging and rubbish

  • Clean and vacuum thoroughly when the job is complete

🔑 Not Going to Be Home?

If you have other commitments or can’t be present on installation day, that’s no problem. We often work independently in customers’ homes and are happy to make alternative arrangements. You can leave a key with a trusted neighbour or in a secure location — just let us know in advance, and we’ll ensure everything is completed to our usual high standards.

🧹 How to Prepare for Installation

To help the day go as smoothly as possible, please take a moment to review these important points:

🚗 Access & Parking

Please ensure we have safe, unobstructed access to your property and a space to park nearby for unloading tools and shutters.

🪟 Clear Working Area

We’ll need direct access to each window, and enough space to build and fit your shutters. Please remove:

  • Furniture or ornaments near windows

  • Window coverings (e.g. blinds, curtains)

  • Any pets, plants, or breakables in the area

If you'd like us to remove existing window coverings, a charge of £30 per window applies, and we will leave them with you for your own disposal.

🦺 Health & Safety

If our team deems the working environment unsafe (e.g. cluttered, obstructed, or hazardous), we may have to postpone the visit. A rescheduling fee may apply in this case.

🧼 Cleaning & Dust

We always tidy up after ourselves, but a little dust may still settle. If you have delicate items nearby, feel free to cover or remove them beforehand.

🧰 Other Tradespeople

If other contractors are scheduled to work in your home on the same day, please let us know in advance so we can coordinate timings appropriately.

♻️ Optional DIY Packaging Removal & Disposal

Our installation service includes the full removal and disposal of all packaging materials and waste from your shutter project — leaving your home tidy and ready to enjoy.

For larger installations, we also offer an alternative option. If you would prefer to handle the disposal yourself, our fitters will neatly consolidate all packaging and leave it with you. Many customers simply set this out with their regular household collection or take it to a local recycling centre.

To make things easier, here are links to help you locate your nearest recycling centre:

Choosing this option also comes with a small discount, relative to the size of your shutter project. It’s a simple way to save while still receiving the same professional installation service.

Need to Replace Your Windows? We’ll Remove and Reinstall Your Shutters With Care

Shutter Removal & Reinstallation During Window Renovations

Planning to replace or renovate your windows? If you already have shutters installed, it’s important to factor them into your renovation plans. At The Shutter Shack, we offer a professional Shutter Removal and Reinstallation Service

Why Is This Service Necessary?

If you're having new windows fitted or carrying out renovation work around your existing ones, you may be asked to temporarily remove any window dressings to allow for access. Understandably, this can raise concerns—especially if you’ve invested in custom shutters.

Shutters are bespoke and custom-made to fit your specific windows and reveals. This precision-fit is one of the features that makes plantation shutters so appealing—but it also means that any changes to the window area, such as new window frames or plastering work, can affect the way your shutters fit and operate. In some cases, minor adjustments may be necessary, and the final result may differ slightly from the original installation.

Things to Consider Before Ordering New Windows

To help preserve the look and fit of your shutters, it's worth taking a moment to think through how your new windows will differ from your current ones. Here are some key points to bear in mind:

  • Like-for-like replacements: If your new windows match the existing ones in size, shape, and layout, it’s usually fine to remove and reinstall your shutters without major issues.

  • Your shutters were likely built around your original handles, so we strongly recommend asking your window supplier to fit slimline espagnolette handles instead of standard ones wherever possible.

  • Bay windows: These can be tricky. It's important to keep the same number of panes and the same angles within the bay. Even small changes can impact how your shutters fit or function.

  • Window breaks and divisions: If the natural breaks in the window (like mullions or transoms) are changing position, it might not affect the physical fit but could impact the aesthetic and alignment of your shutters.

  • Sills, architraves and reveals: Shutters are usually installed to the window surround or architrave, so it’s crucial that these stay in the same place during your renovation for the best reinstallation outcome.

Our team will keep you informed throughout the process and will highlight any concerns that arise during removal. Once the shutters are safely taken down, we will leave them with you for safekeeping until you are ready for them to be reinstalled.

What to Expect During Removal

Removing shutters is a delicate process. Your shutter frame is sealed and secured with fixings hidden behind the trim, which means we must first remove the trim to access those fixings. While we always take every care to minimise disruption and damage, it's important to understand that some minor damage may occur, especially to the surrounding trim or décor.

What Happens After Your Window Work?

Once your new windows or repairs are complete, we will return to refit your shutters, subject to availability in our installation schedule. We’ll aim to book your reinstallation as soon as we have availability after your project is finished.

In many cases, shutters can be reinstalled with excellent results. However, if your window dimensions or reveals have changed significantly, some adjustment may be required, and minor decorating touch-ups to the surrounding decoration may be needed. These touch-ups will be your responsibility, but we will ensure that the shutter installation itself is completed to the highest possible standard.

In rare cases, it may not be possible to reinstall your shutters exactly as they were due to alterations made during the window renovation. If we determine that the original shutters no longer fit as intended, we will only charge 50% of the refitting cost to account for the situation.

Ready to Book or Need Advice?

If you're planning window replacements or renovations, speak to us early in the process. We’ll work with you to schedule the safe removal of your shutters and coordinate a smooth reinstallation once your window work is complete.
